Communicating

Email

I find e-mail a great communication medium. As I use it a lot and get dozens of messages, it's easy to get lost. Therefore, I would love for you to use plain-text and please quote properly. Using a proper subject line helps identifying your mail and keeping it out of the junk filters. Note that especially when on the road, I might not be able to open (certain) attachments. It'd be great if I could understand the context of the message without having to open a Microsoft Word document.

Encryption

Encryption of any message is very welcome. Read Zimmerman's essay or ask me why.

For your convenience, I use the two most frequently used encryption systems. My PGP key is 0x24c56d3b, it is pretty well trusted. For S/MIME, which is incorporated with most e-mail clients, it's easiest to retrieve my key from an e-mail I sent you. Note that you need to have CAcert's root certificate installed. I am also an assurer for CAcert.

Web 2.0

Please feel free to describe your professional relation with me on LinkedIn or ask around for my qualifications. View Joris Dirks's profile on LinkedIn
I also use Twitter and a bunch of other services, but think about e-mail first.

Doing

Born in April 1984, Joris has had an interest in the governance of society as well as science and all things electronic. While initially quite the beta student, the first eventually got the better of him, resulting in a study in Bestuurskunde (Public Administration) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The curiousity for electronics and the processing of information with that has culminated in an interest on the impact of ICT on civil rights, both in threats as possibilities. While not a fanboy, Joris does find Apple computers as well as Open source software quite useful. As a testament, this page was written with Vi from a PowerBook. Joris has experience in several volonteer jobs and hopes to become more politically active.

Combining knowledge management through ICT and the characteristics of public management, his masters thesis is about the use of Communities of Practice in eGovernment.
